BONK, WIF and POPCAT
Sound familiar? Reminiscent of the Snap Crackle and Pop ads by Rice Krispies from back in the day perhaps.
Or in my case a t-shirt I used to have that said Smack, Crack and Pot set in a sparkly green iron on.
That’s neither here not there. Let’s get into world of Solana memes where Dogwifhat ($WIF) and Popcat ($POPCAT) reign supreme. At least as of the time of this writing.
Each of them combines internet culture with the wild west of crypto (specifically Solana) to provide a spectacle that’s both entertaining and highly speculative.

Dogwifhat, abbreviated as $WIF, captured significant attention due to its simple, humorous and easily sharable image.
Originating from a 2019 internet meme featuring a Shiba Inu puppy adorned with a pink beanie, Dogwifhat’s inception into the crypto world marked a playful intersection of internet culture and blockchain technology.
The project was launched in November 2023 and quickly gained traction, achieving a notable milestone when it was listed on Binance in March 2024. This listing propelled Dogwifhat into the top echelons of cryptocurrencies by market cap, with its peak value reaching $4.85 and a market cap of $4.7 billion shortly after.
WIF’s popularity has been boosted by viral marketing campaigns, including a notable effort where community members raised funds to project the Dogwifhat image onto the MSG Sphere in Las Vegas.
The cultural impact of Dogwifhat is evident from its widespread adoption as a profile picture on social media platforms, particularly X, where it’s associated with phrases like “literally just a dog with a hat” and “the hat stays on.” These slogans encapsulate the light-hearted essence of the coin, which has fostered a strong community around it. Users on X have shared memes and edits featuring the Dogwifhat image, contributing to its visibility and cultural resonance. This has not only made Dogwifhat a topic of discussion but has also solidified its position within the Solana ecosystem as a meme coin with both cultural and economic significance.

Popcat, or $POPCAT, represents another major meme phenomenon on Solana, leveraging the viral “Popcat” internet meme which features a cat named ‘Oatmeal’ switching between two facial expressions one with a closed mouth and the other edited to form an ‘O’ shape.
Popcat quickly gained traction for its unique and engaging concept or something….
The tokenomics of Popcat are straightforward, with a total supply of 979,974,293 POPCAT tokens, a majority of which are allocated to liquidity pools, making it accessible and appealing for trading. Its rise from an initial market cap of $200,000 to over $423 million showcases the volatile yet potentially lucrative nature of meme coins.
The cultural milestones for Popcat include its rapid adoption by the crypto community on Solana, with many users on X discussing its potential for growth, often comparing it to other successful meme coins like Bonk and Dogwifhat. Popcat’s engaging nature, combining the humor of memes with the speculative excitement of cryptocurrency investments, has led to discussions and endorsements by influencers on social media, where users have shared posts celebrating its price surges and market performance.
This community-driven enthusiasm underscores Popcat’s position as a significant player in the memecoin space, illustrating how meme culture can drive cryptocurrency trends and foster community engagement on platforms like Solana.

— BONK!!! (@bonk_inu) October 16, 2024
$BONK on Solana is like if Dogecoin decided to take a vacation to a more tech-savvy, less Elon Musk-dependent island but brought along its sense of humor. Launched as a playful jab at the meme coin craze, BONK quickly became the ‘it’ dog in Solana’s meme coin yard, with its mascot—a Shiba Inu getting bonked—gaining fame for its absurdity.
It’s not just about the meme; BONK has embedded itself into the Solana ecosystem with utility beyond just laughs. With over 371 Program IDs integrated as of my last update, it’s practically the Swiss Army knife of Solana meme coins, useful in a way that Doge could only dream of back in its early days.
The community rallied around BONK, with features like daily token burns creating a sense of deflationary economics, which, if you’re into that sort of thing, could be seen as an attempt to give it some real economic backbone.
This has led to discussions on X where users marvel at its market resilience and utility, positioning BONK as more than just a meme but as a token with actual use cases within the Solana ecosystem.
If memes are to be taken seriously, BONK might be sitting at the head of the class, wearing the dunce cap with pride.
Summary
Memes on Solana are gigantic and it may only be the beginning. Should you buy into the obvious hype? Is it too late?
Who’s to say…
Murad has a cult-like following on X and he makes some very good points in his Token 2049 presentation.
