This beginner-friendly Step-by-step Guide will show you exactly how to buy any crypto, cheaply, quickly and efficiently in 2024.

Disclaimer: This is written for a US audience by a Canadian. If you’re visiting from the UK or elsewhere things are likely to be a bit different based on local regulations etc.

We’ll be setting up accounts for both Centralized Exchanges and Decentralized Exchanges ((CEXs / DEXs). They each offer different services and available cryptos and you most likely need both.

Follow this GUIDE right to the end. It should take under 20 min.

Step 1

Choose the crypto (altcoin) that you want to buy.

For this Guide, let’s pick something a bit more obscure than BTC ETH or SOL… how about $BONK? Assuming that you’ve done your own research and this is the crypto you want, the first step is to find out where it’s available.

Head on over to CoinGecko.com and type BONK into the search field.

You’ll get to this page: https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/bonk

Here you can find out a lot of the info about it, pricing data, official links and of course where to buy. There could be more options that the ones listed but it a perfect place to start and usually has it covered.

Look at that — BONK is available on CoinBase, Kraken, OKX and Binance. Plenty of major centralized crypto exchanges that are reputable and highly rated.

Let’s not get too deep into the small differences between each of these CEXs. They are all comparable in terms of user experience, fees and customer support.

We like CoinBase and Kraken. and for this Guide we’re just going to go with CoinBase.
