COINS represent the native currency of their blockchain.
BTC is native to the Bitcoin network for example.
SOL is native to Solana.

TOKENS are built on top of an existing blockchain.
Many tokens use the Ethereum network and build according to its standards (like ERC20).

LINK (Chainlink)  is an ERC20 Token.
